Shasta Brown, born in New Orleans, La, to two entrepreneurs; she was a free spirited, quick witted child, with an even quicker mouth. Queenie, as she is often referred to as, was perceived as an extremely gifted child at a young age. Thus her path was clear, “I’ve been artistically inclined since I could remember. I was always interested in the arts, whether it be singing, performing liturgical dance, rapping, web graphic design, acting, speech- any outlet where I was able to express myself, peaked my interest!” according to the animated young lady. Many of her teachers referred to her as a great orator, because of her ability to compose a speech and address an audience at moments notice. Following several recommendations from mentors, teachers and even the principal of her school, her mom had her tested for gifted abilities. Shortly thereafter, Shasta was found to be gifted in Literary Arts and due to her extremely high aptitudes in that and other subjects, was tested and accepted to, the prestigious New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA), At NOCCA, Shasta received training in theatre and creative writing. Her love of life, chatty persona, and pioneering spirit are just some of the reasons her friends dubbed her Queen. Through out high school while her peers were enjoying the luxury of being children, Shasta, could often be found taking college coursework, managing the family’s real estate and other businesses, and preparing to forefront the business world. Because even though her passions were artistically driven, her parents saw them as mere dreams. Shasta completed her high school coursework one year early, and was offered scholarships to many of the areas prestigious universities. She went on to attend the University of New Orleans majoring in Business Administration. Shasta was focused and living independent of her family in 2005, when Hurricane Katrina ripped through the Gulf Coast, destroying her home and scattering her loved ones. Determined to assist in the rehabilitation of her beloved city, she accepted an offer with the lead contractor for redevelopment to counsel disaster victims through the federally funded grant program. As the youngest person within the initiative, she quickly became a recognizable face. And due to innate ability to address audiences, she was called upon by her Regional Operations Mangers to host public information seminars. Sadly, the contract ended in March 2008, and Shasta was now faced with the decision to stay in New Orleans or to pursue her dreams elsewhere. The answer was easy for this gregarious young lady. Shasta is now a resident of the Washington DC metro area, also know as the DMV. Even at her young age, her business resume is impeccable and she is now working to build her creative repertoire. Ostentatious, versatile and outgoing are just some of the words commonly used to describe this 5’8 beauty. Take a good look at this face because you will see it again! |
