Tuesday, November 4,  2008--Election Day, was such a beautiful, emotional and inspirational day. Countries around the world tuned in to watch the election. Elderly Black men and women that never thought they would live to see this day, cast their ballots and had their prayers answered. Young people that have volunteered for Obama's campaign saw all their hardwork pay off. People from all walks of life cheered in happiness as the election results came in.

Even though this is a great day in American history, we can not forget the historical context that makes this election so meaningful to Black Americans. I was so over whelmed when they officially announced that Barack Obama will be the 44th President of the United States of America. My family and I cried, danced and screamed, as did many others. I can only think of how the steps to the White House were built by slaves and on January 20, 2009, 144 years after the Emanicipation Proclamation, Barack Obama will be sworn in and walk up those steps as the first Black President.

Lets take in this moment and cherish it. This is definitely a historical day and time; its almost hard to take it all in. People young and old, Black or White will now start to feel they can accomplish anything. I know this does not mean everything will be peachy-clean apples and sunshine, but it is definitely a step in the right direction. I feel so proud. I am blessed to be alive to see such a great and beautiful change take place. Congratulations to President-elect Barack Obama and the new first family: Michelle, Sasha and Maliah. Damn it feels good!
